Since 1936, Los Angeles Unified School District has implemented operations of the district Athletics Office as well as operations of CIF Los Angeles City Section. During that time, the number of schools, whose programs are managed and financed by the District, grew to 130, including almost 40 independent charter schools.
As of July 1, 2013, there will be two separate and distinct offices that will continue this work. The LAUSD Athletics Office will continue to administer issues specific to district schools, such as monitoring coaching requirements, bus transportation to contests, clearance of student athletes for participation, providing assistance and guidance to new schools and new school personnel as well as general supervisory issues relative to each school's athletic program.
Among the many programs and services administered by CIF Los Angeles City Section, are management of playoffs and championships, decision-making on eligibility issues including transfers, realignment of schools and leagues, coordinating the business of the Interscholastic Athletic Committee, collection of dues from all member schools, as well as facilitating the process of sending our teams to the CIF Regional and State Championships.
Attached are three documents that detail reasons for the change in administrative structure, including further details on the division of the duties. These documents will be continually updated to provide the most current information for our member schools.
