Beginning July 1, 2013 the CIF Los Angeles City Section will become an independent non profit organization much like seven of the other CIF Sections in California. The LA City Section Office will continue to govern and manage the sports programs for the 140 high schools that make up the LA City Section but will not be under the direction of the LAUSD. The change will create more opportunity for the section to enforce CIF bylaws and operate in a manner to provide a focus on the competition, rules, and policies without conflicting with the LAUSD policies. The Section Office will become the laison for the State CIF Office and filter for the schools in the section. Issues handled by the Section Office include, distribution of CIF information, processing transfers eligibility, waiver request, address rule violations, scheduling, league and division alignments, manage playoffs and championship events, and the daily operation of the section. The Section Staff will report to the new Board of Managers, the governing body for the section that is composed of representatives for each of three region within the section, Valley, Coastal, and East. An Executive Committee has been elected to address all financial and business matters as well as approval agendas for the Board of Managers. The new Section Office will be located at 8401 Arleta Ave., Sun Valley, CA 91352. The office phone number is (818) 767-0800.
