On a beautiful day in Culver City at the Doubletree Hotel, CIF Los Angeles City Section Athletic Directors, Assistant Principals, Section staff members and LAUSD athletic administrators came together to reacquaint, converse and enjoy the 2014 CIF LACS Athletic Director’s Symposium.
“It was our goal to provide our athletic directors from our member schools with a training seminar that would offer presentations by leading educational professionals on current topics and trends within the interscholastic athletic community,” Commissioner John Aguirre said. "The day went very well. It was informative for everyone and I look forward to next year."
The Coordinating Committee of Tina Tamura (President of the California State Athletic Directors Association), Neil La Sala, John Aguirre, Dawn Xitco, Trent Cornelius, David Siedelman and Stephen Minx did a wonderful job of organizing and presenting the day’s activities.
The agenda consisted of three break-out sessions which covered topics such as time management, NCAA requirements, technology in athletic administration, fundraising, best practices in athletic administration, preseason coaches meetings and coaches’ evaluations, school site administrator’s responsibilities, MISIS training and pursuing victory with honor.
Guest speakers included John Aguirre, Tina Tamura, Neil La Sala, Trent Cornelius and David Siedelman (LAUSD Athletics Coordinators), Robert Carr (CIF-LACS BOM President), Barbara Fiege (former Commissioner of the Los Angeles City Section), Paul Perrier, Kevin Kanemura, Connie Owens, Sally Ngov, Joann Heller, Robert Marks, Robert Storaker and Wes Carty.
Keynote speaker Roger Blake, CIF Executive Director, shared the current state of affairs at the State level including new rules, future proposals and present day updates and reminders. Blake displayed his enthusiasm and support of the LA City Section by recognizing the Athletic Directors and Assistant Principals in attendance for their support of the Section’s student-athletes.
Breakfast and lunch were sponsored by Warehouse Shoe Sale (WSS) and Big Teams, respectively. A plethora of vendors came to support the symposium and share their ideas and products at their respective exhibits.
Thank you to WSS, Big Teams, Alert Services, The Basix, Big Game Promotions, BSN, Cannon Sports, Concordia University Irvine, eTeamSponsor, Gatorade, High School Calendar, Kramer Products and the Positive Coaching Alliance for participating.
We look forward to meeting again next year and continuing the fine tradition of the Athletic Director’s Symposium.
