Neil LaSala, athletic director from Belmont high school, Stephen Minix, Green Dot Charters administrator, and John Aguirre, Commissioner of the Los Angeles City Section, all attended the three day event. The conference provided current information on concussion prevention, sudden cardiac arrest syndrome, heat & hydration, helmet fitting, discussions and demonstrations on Heads Up and Blocking, as well as key note speakers Tony Dungy, former NFL coach and ESPN commentator, and Oliver Luck, NCAA Director. One of the major issues presented was a need for sport specific coaching certification that would ensure that coaches are trained and skilled to a proficient level with ability to teach the basic fundamentals of the sport, and able to present fundamentals in a progresses manner and play the game using technique that does not expose our students to greater risk of injury and concussion.
