The CIF LA City Section is proud to announce that Assistant Commissioner Vicky Lagos and former Dorsey football coach Paul Knox have been honored with the CIF State Distinguished Service Awards for 2014-15. Lagos and Knox were recognized during the City track and field championships on May 28 at Cerritos College.
“Vicky has been a great asset to the Section office since she became an Assistant Commissioner in 2007,” Commissioner John Aguirre said. “Her knowledge, enthusiasm and energy have served our Section with expertise in cross country, track and soccer, bringing updated and new formats to form our divisions, playoffs and championship competition. Her efforts are well deserving of the CIF Distinguish Service Recognition.”
Lagos is also a member of the State Advisory for cross country and track, and helps to coordinate the State CIF Southern California soccer playoffs. Her prior experiences included teaching, coaching, and working as assistant athletic director within the LAUSD.
Knox recently retired after 40 years of coaching football and track within the CIF Los Angeles City Section. Prior to his retirement, he held the honor of being the senior football coach in the Section.
“Paul has led both the Dorsey football and track teams to multiple championships, and has distinguished himself with the number of former players that have moved on to the college and professional levels,” said Aguirre. “All of his coaching years were completed at Dorsey High School where he has been a father figure, an icon and a legend. A truly humble man that is deserving of the CIF Distinguish Service Recognition.”
Thank you to both Vicky Lagos and Coach Paul Knox for their unwavering commitment and dedication to the CIF LA City Section. They have been and will continue to be an inspiration to all of our coaches and student-athletes throughout the Section.
