Grant Recognizes Longtime Coach By Naming Basketball Court In His Honor

Loyalty and longevity go hand-in-hand. Grant’s Howie Levine is synonymous with those two attributes as he begins his 30th year as the boys coach for the Lancers.

With more than 480 wins under his belt, Levine has been more than just a coach to the Grant community. A mentor and leader to many, Levine was honored recently when the school named its gymnasium floor “Howard Levine Court” in a moving tribute for his 30 years of service at Grant as head basketball coach.

At halftime of his team’s November 19 game against the alumni, Levine was given a plaque recognizing his dedication and commitment to the young men of Grant. Then in a surprise gesture that caught Levine off-guard, the school revealed an artist’s rendering of the Grant court named in his honor.

To say the least, Levine was touched by the outpouring of affection, support and friendship of the Grant community and the alumni who came back to honor their coach.

Enjoy the video below which includes interviews with Levine and his right-hand man, Assistant Coach Tarek Abdelsameia. Congrats on 30 years, Howie!
